Surprised to hear about the European/North American reactions to spirituality - I would have thought the opposite. I am also a Unitarian-Universalist ... and our choir director (a Roman Catholic, also teaches music liturgy at a Catholic seminary) always has to substitute for the 'Big J' and 'Big G' words ... only when the music is in English, though, and ESPECIALLY NOT when it's a Mozart piece! I've written/discussed the need for more spirituality in American Buddhism - UU's have discussed it too.
