Want to do Chaplaincy?

We are looking for the right people to train in Buddhist chaplaincy and help us to develop unique socially engaged Buddhist projects in Leicester.

The training opportunities at The Buddhist House for those interested in doing chaplaincy work are growing. We now or in the near future offer:
Full Time Studentship: Resident students at The Buddhist House can now study full-time following an integrated course of practical experiences, skills training and academic programme covering chaplaincy, groupwork and counselling.
Religious Vocations: These involve full-time live-in training at the religious community coupled with practical socially engaged work in the city in our own community project and in other settings.
Practicums: Practical placements with professional supervision for counsellors and chaplains
Volunteering: We can take volunteers wishing to expand their knowledge and experience in a Buddhist &/or interfaith setting.

Gassho,

I am a Sensei with Hongaku Jodo (Pure land Original-Nature sect) I am a 61 year old religious studies professor at a Jesuit University in Denver, Colorado USA. I have been a Buddhist since 1995 and after 8 years of study became a Sensei. I am also a Hospice chaplain as well. My reason for writing you is this I want to further my understanding of Pure Land I have studied with Dr. Bloom via distance education. I would like to take your distance program as well come to your locations where seminars are being held as well. Could you provide me further information about enrollment and in your program.

Sensei Grant Fleming

Hello.
I have been practicing Buddhism in this life for ten or so years now, and have been trying to live the life spoken of by Buddha whilst holding down a job and living in the marketplace as it were. My personal experience has been that doing so is tremendously lonely when nobody around you is aiming for the same goal and the temptations are many.
I have quit my job, am selling my house and intend to go to Japan to meet people who have some of the same aspirations, hopefully an opportunity to meditate longer and deeper than ever before at a monastery where I have been invited to stay. Whilst I have been waiting for the house to sell, I have been spending my days emptying it. The sutras I have now are the Diamond sutra, the Heart sutra and the Surungama sutra. Happily the shorter and longer Amida sutras have found their way into my hands and they have given me the hope that upon my return from Japan NAMU AMIDA BUTSU will be my constant companion.
I write in the hope that you may know of any careers not antithetical to the precepts, or if not, how one is to weigh the wrong of wearing a uniform with leather shoes against the right of being able to live in the midst of the world letting previous bad karma work out and perhaps helping others when possible?
With Respect, Graham.
