We have been enjoying a harvest of greens, mustard, chard, and pak-choi, from out little Garden plot. As you can see we don't have much space and the garden is in the shade of some Banana plants and an Avocado plant. Never the less, thanks to some communal effort, good soil, and a tropical climate there are enough greens to go around.
Well, why does anyone go to the beach? But the nenes weren't there for sun and snorkeling. You can probably see the high surf and overcast sky that kept most people out of the water.
Merrie Monarch, that is. Merrie Monarch is a week-long festival of hula and Hawaiian culture. Today is the last day of the festival, and this morning we were treated to a parade through downtown Hilo.
Wednesday evening is the time for our Faith discussion and gathering at the local Borders bookstore in Hilo, HI. The meetings have been intimate and wide ranging but have generally started with a book that is being read in common.

This morning Judy and I visited the Pipaikou Hongwanji for morning services and were delighted to participate in their "Buddha's Birthday Celebration". This is one of my favorite Buddhist holidays.

Apparently the gold dust geckos have been waiting patiently for us to break our several week papaya fast. They're pretty shy, but they couldn't resist our juicy leftovers this morning. Can you blame them?
